What is MBBS?

MBBS stands for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. It is the primary undergraduate medical degree in India and many other countries. The course duration is 5.5 years, including 1 year of compulsory internship.


How to Get Admission in MBBS in India (Step-by-Step):

✅ 1. Eligibility Criteria

  • You must have completed 10+2 (or equivalent) with:
    • Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English
    • Minimum 50% marks (40% for reserved categories)
  • Minimum age: 17 years (on or before 31st December of the year of admission)

✅ 2. Clear NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test)

  • NEET-UG is mandatory for admission to all MBBS colleges in India (government or private).
  • Conducted once a year by NTA (National Testing Agency)

Subjects in NEET-UG:

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology (Botany + Zoology)

Total Marks: 720
Duration: 3 hours 20 minutes


✅ 3. Register for NEET Counseling

Once NEET results are declared, apply for counseling:

  • All India Quota (AIQ) – 15% seats in all medical colleges
  • State Quota – 85% seats for students of that state
  • Separate counseling for private and deemed universities

✅ 4. Choose College and Seat Allotment

Based on your NEET rank, category, and availability of seats, you will be allotted a college.


Types of Colleges for MBBS:

  1. Government Medical Colleges – Lower fees, high competition
  2. Private Medical Colleges – Higher fees

  • Deemed Universities: ₹15,00,000 – ₹30,00,000 per year
