As of January 5, 2025, there is no lockdown in India due to Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV). While China is experiencing an increase in respiratory illnesses, including HMPV, Indian health authorities have stated that such viruses are common during the winter season and are already present in India. The Indian government has emphasized that there is no unusual surge in respiratory cases within the country and that existing surveillance systems are robust. Additionally, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) plans to enhance laboratory testing for HMPV and monitor trends throughout the year.
Health officials advise the public not to panic and to continue following standard health precautions, such as regular handwashing and avoiding crowded places when possible.
